06-09-2013 · Sharpen it like an ordinary end mill and it will scream bloody murder. You have to spin-grind it and then back it off, which you cant do on the Darex. Or at least not very well. Id guess that most CNC shops today use carbide because of the spindle speeds available on the machines. HSS end mills are therefore most used on Bridgeports.

But where does one find the geometry for the end and what type of grinding wheel is adequate. I cant image how my 6 or 8" diameter wheels will fit ito the tiny geometry at the end of a 3/8" diameter mill I also wonder how the grinding would be done so as to make the end all the flutes identical

Its pretty much a false economy to attempt sharpening the periphery of end mills under ¼" for that reason. Let me suggest something that will yield better mileage.
